Rain today. Viewing the tourists from the leaning tower of Pisa (la torre pendente).
Cortina - The heart of the Dolomites
Cortina d'Ampezzo, long famous for its hiking and climbing, became world famous by hosting the 1956 Winter Olympics.
Today, wonderful road cycling and mountain biking make Cortina a "must go" destination for active sports enthusiasts.
Picture yourself riding, hiking, and mountain biking among the Dolomites' shear rock faces!
Bormio - Big Giro d'Italia Passes
The Mortirolo, Gavia, & Stelvio–These famous Giro passes challenge you with their long climbs and fast descents!
Bormio's picturesque alpine setting is perfect for tackling these passes, and its quiet old town center provides a true "Italian" experience!
Less famous, Bormio's hiking and MTB are equally world class!
Bellagio - Lakes and Mountains
There's nothing like the water, sky, and mountains of Lago di Como!
Popular with Italians for their summer vacations, countless boats of all varieties dot the deep blue water.
After cycling and hiking among the lakeside villas and gardens, we "get out on the water," with a ferry ride back to our hotel!
Massa/Carrara - The Italian Riviera
Wonderful biking and hiking around the Apli Apuane marble quarries of Michelangelo fame!
Appearing snow-capped in summer, due to the bright-white marble, we hike and bike trails and roads built over 2000 years!
With a scant 5 Km between alpi and mare–and the beach–our apres sport is a nap in the sun, and a dip in the Mediterranean!

Active and Flexible

Passo Unbrail above Bormio, before descending into Switzerland
Passo Umbrail on a wet, cold day–making I Bagni Vecchi look very appealing–but to tell the truth, this turned out to be a great ride, even though it started out wet, as it was Stelvio Bike Day, and there were thousands of cyclists riding Stelvio!
Whichever primary sport you choose–be it road biking, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, or snowboarding–Altaquota Adventures will keep active and interested with wide variety of routes and terrain. At the minimum, we'll have our four favorite routes for your sport penciled in, and we can always add more!
Of course, the weather doesn't always cooperate, so we're always dynamic and flexible, and if you don't want to ride your road bike in the rain (or the snow on high passes like Gavia and Stelvio), then you don't have to do so. We can hike or mountain bike instead–or perhaps, even take a day off for a trip to the Roman Baths, some window shopping, or visit some local tourist attraction. (Most of these tourist attractions are worth visiting)
Enjoying the warm waters of I Bagni Vecchi-the old Roman Baths in Bormio
But guess what, we are on vacation so we can do it all–so we headed to I Bagni Vecchi (the old baths) afterwards.
Skiers and snowboarders can expect to be on the slopes every day–with over 450 lifts and more than 1200 km of ski trails on 12+ mountains in the Dolomiti SuperSki region it can be a different mountain each day!
We'll choose depending on the recent snowfall and weather conditions, so we can focus on the best exposures and runs. All of the areas we ski and board are well worth repeating, so when you wish to do so, we can return for an encore performance!
With Altaquota Adventures Active Tours, you are never compelled to follow a schedule advertised to the participant's months in advance. Instead, we adapt to your interests, desires, and energy level, provide your small group of friends the ideal active tour!
